Judge Mrs L Callon-Wynn
Al Favell has been showing and breeding Airedales since
1974, initially with his former wife under the affix ‘Shadli’.
During this time there were 6 U.K. Champions, which included
the top Airedale bitch in 1984, Shadli Classy Charmer who
won 9CC’s and 11 RCC’s, 4 American Champions, 1 Argentinean
Champion, 2 Italian Champions who were also Italy’s Top Dogs
(All breeds) and 3 International Champions. Al also bred a
Champion Briard (Ch. Shadli Sharbret) and a German Champion
Welsh Terrier. He was also involved in breeding and showing
Wire Fox Terriers and West Highland White Terriers.
After his divorce the affix was changed to Alshadlie and he
has continued to show his Airedale Terriers, initially with
Shadli Top Gear and later with her son and daughter
Alshadlie First Battalion and Alshadlie First Edition and
then her granddaughter Alshadlie Firebird. Currently he is
campaigning Alshadlie Desert Orchid who is featured at the
top of this page.
He became a Championship Show judge in 1986 and has judged
on many occasions both in the UK and overseas culminating in
his appointment to judge Airedale Terriers at Crufts in
2006. He spent many years firstly as Vice Chairman and then
as Chairman of the Airedale Terrier Breed Council and has
for many years been a member of the National Airedale
Terrier Association’s Committee.
